Olfactory Art & the Senses
Olfactory Art & the Senses investigates the role of smell, taste, and tactility as full-fledged carriers of artistic and conceptual meaning. By positioning scent as an artistic medium, it critically questions and transforms established art forms, materials, and perceptual frameworks.
We focus on practices where sensory experience is not merely an aesthetic supplement but a driving force of the creative process—a catalyst for memory, imagination, and affect. The act of making is approached as a dynamic interplay between idea, perception, memory, and material, where intuition, experimentation, and even failure become productive conditions.
The research explores tensions between ephemerality and materiality, and between personal experience and societal resonance. In doing so, it reveals the poetic and political dimensions of sensoriality and positions art as a laboratory for alternative modes of perceiving, thinking, and knowing—as well as a space for reflecting on contemporary cultural and social dynamics.
