Prof. Dr. David Huycke (°1967, Belgium) is a visual artist and academic renowned for his pioneering work in contemporary silver art. He earned his MFA in jewelry and silversmithing and completed a PhD in the arts with the project The Metamorphic Ornament: Re-Thinking Granulation, reinterpreting ancient techniques in a modern context. His sculptural silver objects, inspired by themes of order, chaos, and material poetry, are held in major collections such as the Victoria and Albert Museum (London) and Design Museum Gent.
Huycke has received numerous awards, including the European Prize for Contemporary Art and Design-led Crafts and the Bavarian State Prize. At PXL-MAD School of Arts and Hasselt University, he leads research on material culture, craftsmanship, and sustainability, advocating for design and artistic processes as solutions to cultural challenges.
