On December 16th and 18th, PXL-MAD School of Arts is organizing a double event on essayism as an artistic research method. On Tuesday, December 16th, a research seminar with numerous lectures, lecture performances, and artistic interventions will take place in Hasselt. On Thursday, December 18th, keynote speaker Arjen Mulder will travel to Campus Sint-Lucas Ghent for a reading group.

Exercises in incompletion. Essayism as a transmedia method

How does the essay manifest itself as a transmedial method, moving between text, image, sound, and performance? As a way of thinking and making rooted in the fragmentary, the encircling, the provisional, and the unfinished? The focus is on practices that move between disciplines and, as translation attempts, generate new perspectives and shift meanings. Thus, a space of reflection unfolds that embraces the tentative and the temporary, as a strategy for breaking open what seems fixed.

The program consists of lectures, lecture-performances, and artistic interventions with Arjen Mulder, Marlies De Munck, Michiel De Cleene, Floris Vanhoof, Colette Broeckaert, Jasper Delbecke, Toon Leën, and Jasmijn Lootens, as well as a roundtable discussion moderated by Tom Van Imschoot and Isolde Vanhee.
