Arne De Winde is a lecturer and researcher at PXL-MAD School of Arts, Hasselt University and LUCA School of Arts. He works as an author, editor, curator, organizer (of events and symposia), translator, and television maker. He’s editor-in-chief of COLLATERAL. Online Journal for Cross-Cultural Close Reading (www.collateral-journal.com) and a member of the editorial board of FORUM+ (www.forum-online.be) and cultural magazine rekto:verso (www.rektoverso.be). He’s a founding member and coordinator of arts center Denderland (https://www.facebook.com/denderlandshopping) and its television platform Denderland TV, which has been broadcasting a daily arts program on national television channel Eclips TV for more than 1250 days.
In his transdisciplinary research he focusses on very diverse topics ranging from contemporary German literature to the (histories of the) peculiar local cake “Geraardsbergse mattentaart”, from 20th-century American photography (by a.o. John G. Zimmerman) to the aesthetics of sports, from archival collections to colonial monuments, from hobby horsing to from the reception of Oswald Spengler’s Decline of the West to the politics of shit. All these projects are driven by an ethos of “close reading” and a critical attention to the intricate intersection of ideology and aesthetics.
As a lecturer, researcher and supervisor of master and PhD dissertations, Arne De Winde explores and stimulates alternative communicative modes and models of thinking, talking, writing, and presenting.
