dr. Remco Roes

Remco Roes’ artistic practice departs from an archive of observations, traces and spaces that are found along the way. By working attentively amongst these fragments, Roes attempts to let new works emerge as momentary constellations of order. These can take the form of spatial installations, artist publications, performance and video – balancing between speaking and remaining silent, intention and coincidence, purposeful work and the (use)fulness of residues and accidents. His research focusses on finding language for and around the spatial concepts that operate within the artistic practice ( (secular sacred) (space) (in digital times) ). An additional meta-focus lies in the exploration of various mediums and formats for artistic research communication (specifically the visual essay, the vulnerable dialogue, as well as exhibitions, symposiums and didactic experiments). An important continuum in both the artistic and the research practice is a need to create, activate or deepen the work through the process of collaboration. Both in respect to the artistic creation, research reflection and within a didactic context.
