Eline Valkeneers

Eline Valkeneers is PhD researcher at PXL-MAD, School of Arts, Hasselt. After obtaining her diploma in pedagogical sciences at KU Leuven, she started working at PXL-MAD, School of Arts, educating MA arts students to become artists-teachers. After more than ten years of teaching experience, the many interfaces and similarities between an artistic practice and a pedagogical practice prompted her to submit a doctoral proposal. Her research departs from the observation that the prevailing influence of neoliberalism on both artistic and educational practices affects the human values characteristic for these practices. It is not her intention to provide a solution or toolbox, but to approach this dominant discourse from the interaction between the classicist and the romantic approach and their meaning to art and art education these days. Specific themes that attract her attention are the interpretation of ‘sustainability’ and ‘the presence of a body’.
